For as much as I rail against new age metaphysics, I still think the universe works in mysterious ways.

Today’s moment of serendipity:

As I’m going through airport security at the Boston airport on the way back to San Francisco, Ray Kurzweil walks in line right in front of me, and we proceed to have a short conversation while putting our belongings through the X-Ray machine.

Ray has had a profound impact on my life, filling my mind with a clear vision of where the world was headed when I needed it most during my angsty teenage days as I was disidentifying from a liberal Jewish belief in God, yet still felt the world was inherently meaningful.

He showed me there was a direction to this magical universe we all inhabit. So it was significant for me to have a chance to have a conversation with him in that setting.

But while this feels like something supernatural at play, this is probably just convergent stochastic probability doing that special “emergence” thing it does. But there may be some more intelligent mechanism yet at play.
