It’s that time again….
Time for a new age reality check.
This time, it’s the word “should”.
So many people seem to be trying to cut the word should out of their vocabulary.
There’s a negative way to use it and a positive way to use it.
At its core, should implies a normative judgement about reality. It implies things should be different than where they are. But many things should be different from the way they are.
In the Buddhist / Hindi absolute sense things are perfect as they are, but that’s not the world of form, that’s the word of formlessness or emptiness.
And in the world of form, there are all sorts of “should’s” the voice in your head is telling you to do that you *should* probably listen to.
You should eat healthy. You should be kind to yourself and others. You should aim to live a life of joy, love and purpose.
Finally, let’s short circuit the “should” debate at its core, through device of the “Performative Contradiction”.
Wanting to stop using the word “should”, inherently has a should embedded in it.
“I should really stop saying to myself I should do things”
