I agree with everything but his last line:

“It makes no sense to elevate the economics above the biosphere”

This is the grave philosophical error of most of the ecological and whole earth movements.

They are mixing up the difference between fundamental and significance.

The biosphere is more fundamental than economics systems. But economic systems are more significant.

Therefore the economic system is “elevated above” the biosphere.

But that does not mean the biosphere does not matter. Because it is a fundamental system economics is built on top of, it means we must take care of it or our economic system will collapse.

Another way of seeing this is that in the event of economic collapse the biosphere would be just fine. But in the event of biosphere collapse economic systems would consequently collapse as well.

A building with a rotten foundation will topple.
