When someone acts in way your value system deems “inappropriate” it is a critical skill to be able to discern whether they have the same value system and were falling short by their own standards, or whether they have a different value system where they are acting appropriately by their own standards. One situation is a failure to perform the other is a worldview clash. And they should be treated entirely differently.
