My quick investigation of the conspiracy theory and the scientific consensus leaves me thinking the motives behind the conspiracy theory are certainly plausible and the consensus scientific viewpoint relatively unconvincing.
Obviously extraordinarily claims require extraordinary evidence, and I don’t see that, so I’m very much undecided on the issue. But I’m surprised I’ve never heard about this before.
Overall the general population is far too trusting of authorities, and significantly underweights the parsimony of “Conspiracy”.
Hopefully Edward Snowden’s revelations about the NSA have dawned a new era.
